Mainland China - Senapati Bapat Rd

Address:
ICC Tech Park, Next to Pyramid mall,
Senapati Bapat Rd.,
Pune - 411 016.
Phone: (020) 66207777
Directions: http://www.mainlandchinaindia.com/pune.htm
Website: http://www.mainlandchinaindia.com

Ambiance: Good for a nice dinner. The dim-sum lounge is a nice change from the routine.

Tip:The service at this outlet of mainland china is VERY slow and in my experience quite poor. That is quite different from the one in camp, though the food quality is the same. They offer chinese jasminte tea (on the house), which most of the times does not arrive until you are ready for desserts and they'll serve it only if you insist! On weekends, the wait is usually an hour and then the service is quite clumsy. You'll see many frustrated customers. Unless it's very close to you (unfortunately it is for me :) just go to the one on D.P. road.

Food Review:See my review of MainLand China on Dhole Patil Rd.

Edited to add: I was recently there again and the service, quality of food has improved tremendously. However, things did start slacking once the people poured in. I guess on a weekday, you are better off reaching at about 8:15 pm. I am still not brave enough to go there on a weekend.

Bromark Kitchen - Take away chicken

Address: Formal address to be posted later.
Phone: to be posted
Directions: If you are going from University towards Symbiosis, take the first left after Piramyd. This is about 1/4 km from the turn towards your left. Please note that this is not a restaurant, so do not look for a typical restaurant type setting.

Type of food: Basic Maharashtrian tasting chicken and eggs at a reasonable price and hygiene.
Ambiance: This is a small place with a huge see-through kitchen. Its more like a store, very well lit.
Food Review: The menu is very basic. Curry- Masala and Tawa. Chicken lollipops, fried tangdi and whole grilled chicken. Eggs - Curry, omlette. You also get roti to go with your chicken. The meals are sold in portions of: 1 plate- about 250 gms, half - half a kg, and full - 1kg. We bought the tawa curry which was not at all like a Tawa bhaji. It was a nice gravy with loads of coconut and curry leaves. Also, tried Chicken lollipops which were quite tasty.
The tangdi fry at rs. 3o for two pieces seemed like a popular fare though we did not have it.

A meal for two can be managed under 100 rs. If you are huge eaters, this can be done in a couple of hundred rupees.

Tip: There is not much place to stand while you are waiting to pick up your order. If you plan to eat there, be prepared to be perched on a tiny bench and hold you plate in your hand. Also, parking is almost impossible to find. Though, you could have someone in the car/on the two wheeler while you go pick up your food. Be prepared for a ten minute wait.

IL Fungo Magico - Italian and Mexican Restaurant

Address: Shop No. 18, Lane 6, Vrindavan Society, Meera Nagar, Koregaon Park, Pune 411001.

Phone: 26122461

Directions: It is in lane #6, right next to Malaka Spice. From North Main Road, turn in to lane 6 (where you have a Pizza Corner on the corner). You can also follow directions to Malaka spice on their web site and go to the next restaurant :).

Type of food: Italian.

Ambiance: Small cafe type ambiance, both indoor and outdoor.

Price Range: Avg. Rs.130 per person

Food Review: The pizza is authentic Italian with a slight Indian touch. That means, it's not like Pizza Hut or Domino's. It's like real Italian pizza (from Italy, not US ;-). That's probably why one would go to this place.

Tip:The minestrone soup is just as non-Italian as the pizza is authentic Italian. I'm not sure why they call it Minestrone! It was a yellow (yes, y e l l o w!) broth with pieces of cauliflower floating in it. The waiter tried to explain how it is the correct original recipe, but when we insisted, he was courteous enough to offer us Tomato soup at no extra charge.

Have not tried the Mexican food here. Would love to hear from you how the Mexican food is.

Type of food: Kashmiri food is their speciality.

Food Review: Kashmiri food is their specialty. I would recommend Wazwaan Chaman (for the vegetarian), chiken pepper tikka for tandoor lovers. Rogan Josh and Wazwaan special chicken are great as well.
Tip: If you live in the Baner area, they will quite likely deliver as well. When they do, they will add a delivery charge of Rs. 15-20.
