Malaka Spice - Pune's best south east asian food joint
Friday, September 22, 2006
Address: Vrindavan Apartments, Off. North Main Road, Koregaon Park, Pune.
Phone: 26136293
Web site: http://malakaspice.com
Directions: http://malakaspice.com/location.html
Type of food: Indonasian, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Thai and some chinese. It's a bit spicy (as the name suggests, duh!).
Ambiance: Nice, cafe type ambiance, certainly not quiet. Very clean. Perfect for a group of up to 6 people. They have many small-medium tables.
Price Range: Avg. Rs.250 per person
Food Review: Well, what can I say... this is one place that lived up to all its hype. In one word, awesome!. The best of the evening was "Canh Trung soup" - A fresh tomato soup with sliced chilli lemon grass. The "Panang laksa" fish soup was also good. Sea food seems like their speciality. If you are in the mood for something less spicy, "Grilled fish in banana leaves" is great for you. If you want something even less spicy (and you like mushrooms), the "Three aunties and grandmothers" is for you.
Roti Jhala was a good, interesting dish - a light fluffy pancake.
Roti Canai was a total disappointment - it was just like regular desi roti/naan.
They also have really great mocktails. Try the "Knight in white satin" - coconut cream and pineapple juice with ice cream. Yum yum...:)

Supreme's Corner - Pav Bhaji pizza and pulav - J.M. Road
Tuesday, September 05, 2006
Address: 1206/B/1, Shivajinagar Pune 4. This is opposite Sambhaji Park and close to Shiv Sagar on J.M. Road
Phone:25533581
Food: Pav Bhaji, Pizza and Pulav. That's it! Of course, they serve ice cream and soft drinks.
Short Review: This is a very old, very popular joint (I've been eating here for the last 20 years at least). In my opinion, it's the best Pav Bhaji in Pune. The place is like an outdoor cafe, not the cleanest place around, but quite decent. The pizza is desi pizza with Amul cheese, not the kind you get at Pizza Hut. I love it all the same. The pulav is also a hot favorite.
